You should examine the situations that may have made your dog become aggressive. To get the root cause, you can try answering to the following: First, who or what made the dog become aggressive? Second, where did this occur? Third, when was it? Fourth, what was happening at that particular time? Fifth, what had happened to the dog before the occurrence? And the sixth, what made the dog to stop its aggression? Getting answers to these questions will help you discover what it is exactly, that had happened to your dog to get that reaction.
This diagnosis is helpful before you decide on the next step. Remember that dog became aggressive because of some trigger and aggression is just a behavior that is the answer to the situation.Ok, now let's see types of dog aggression: The type number one, territorial aggression. These dogs live in specific areas and they protect their homes from any intruders. You will find the dogs barking at other: Dogs and animals. People. This type of dog aggression happens between the ages of 1 to 3 years. Type number two, possessive aggression. It is believed that in the ancient day’s dogs evolved from harsh environments and realities.
They had to fight for food, sites for nesting and even mates. Possessive aggression is liable to both male and female dogs. The puppies can have this type of aggression too. I'm here again at DogSpot.in FAQ videos to answer a couple of queries that we keep regularly getting on a comment section of the videos and we hope that you guys keep watching viewing that section and keep adding in your queries on the comments as well.
So, recently we got an update from Mumbai for a Labrador Retriever who's about two years old and the owner had a severe problem with the dog pulling always on the leash when they go out on walks.
Now what they are facing is that every time they go out on walks the dog pulls them so much that either the handler falls or the dog ends up getting into a fight with another dog or you know and slowly it is made the owners, you know stop taking the dog outside so what will eventually end up happening is that this problem will still keep on increasing more and more if we don't do something about it now.
So here obviously I can give you very few tips, I cannot give you a step-by-step tutorial for that obviously we are always there you can reach out to us directly. So the problem with leash pulling is that nobody really trains the dog how to behave on the leash or on the collar from day one.
They just put on the leash and they take the dog outside. Now the other thing is one of the main you know factors that I like to point out when it comes to leash walking is the person who is walking the dog, they influence the dog to pull a lot this is something that a lot of people a lot of you would not know about is that if I am walking the dog and if I am very calm and I ignore the environment, the dog is also happy to sniff around and walk and not pull but in case I always see a stray dog and I always wind up the leash.I always get tensed.
I always get prepared for the dog pulling me then we're always loading the dog we're always training them that whenever you see something in front you're supposed to lunge at them you're supposed to attack them and day by day over a span of two years it becomes a very bad habit. Now most of this is a human training issue, this is not a canine training or a canine behavior issue but over a period of time it has become a problem behavior or a nuisance behavior.
Now the biggest problem is that most people abandon their dogs or they tie up their dogs at home or they just totally stop exercising their dogs because they say "oh he pulls so much" but only if we got to realize that we have to train ourselves the right way to you know walk the dog then we're not going to have any of these problems in the very beginning and the simplest of things is that the dog should come to the collar to wear the collar, the dog should wait sit and wait to put the leash on them the dog should sit and wait at every doorway that we pass through that is the right way of walking the dog.
When you're out on the street if you're crossing the road. the dog should always be sitting first waiting for the cars to pass then you cross the road and on the road you should not be taking the dog on a leash to meet everyone that passes by or every dog that passes by because you're teaching the dog to pull you towards new things, right? So you have to teach a lot of neutral and balanced behaviors and everything can be taught using food and treats from the very beginning just like training any behaviors any commands.
My dogs, they jump into the collar when I asked them to wear it my dogs wait and sit when I put on the leash and when they're out on walks they're walking right next to me it doesn't always have to be stuck next to you but they do they shouldn't be pulling and causing you strain on your shoulders.

This is not a quick fix. Pulling on the leash is a topic that it takes a lot of hours to teach a lot of hours to learn, and it's a different course itself. I have a video that I'm gon na share with you that I explain how to teach the dog to not to pull on the leash which you're gon na see it in a moment. People ask me: how do I stop my dog from pulling on the leash the two parts I'm gon na answer it in two parts? First of all, what you want to do is you want to allow your dog to do what it wants to do when you're going for a walk, you have to let your dog to enjoy the walk by allowing it to do whatever it wants. So, for example, in this case, Ether is just sniffing around and the leash is kind of tight now, so I'm going to show you how to fix that tension on the leash. As you can see, she is pulling on the leash.
So I am going to show you how to fix that, so I'm Harvey as a distraction. So so, first of all, as I said, you want to allow your dog to do whatever it wants. So Esther wants to sniff over there. So I want the leash to be be loose again. It'S not very loose yet I'm gon na say Esther no leash towards me. Bring Esther back to me. She'S gon na wow, she's gon na give me a sit. Okay, good girl. No, she pulls again I'll pull the leash to the side. Gently say no. Now, let's see I'll just say, no Ether, no good girl, she stops no. She stops good girl. So now I'm just relying on the verbal, so I'm gon na show you a couple more times now.
I'M gon na explain again. So the idea here is, if you feel that your dog is pulling on the leash and the leash is tight. What you're gon na do, first of all, you're give a verbal cue to your dog that is making a mistake, which is Esther. No, if she responds well that's great. If not, then what I'll do I'll pull the leash to a side I'll bring her back to reality, I'll, say: good girl, okay, we go again and remember we let the dog do what it wants to do everything that the dog enjoys to do.
Let them to do accept pulling on the leash. So now I've done it few time with Esther I've repeated that technique with Esther they can pee, they can do their business. Let'S say hi to everybody say hi to our adult. If there is a tension, I'll say Esther, no put the dish to the side, bring here back to reality. Good girl, Esther, yes, continue! So, as you could see, it's a simple technique that I'm offering you to teach your dog and implement it in your walks. Again, it's not a quick fix is not going to fix all the bad behavior and all the pulling on the leash. This is just one of the solutions that I'm sharing with you.
The one thing that I usually suggest to do is practice the same thing that I just showed you in the video inside your living room or inside your house and then move it to the back yard and then front yard and then on the streets. Don'T go in the park and practice this in the park. This is not a solution that is going to help you to deal with it in the park itself, because there's just too many things happening in the park, so just practice it at home in your backyard.
Little by little just practice it as many times as you can and then hopefully, you'll see a little difference in your dog's behavior when you're walking it with the leash. Hi, my name is Dr. Uri Burstyn I'm a veterinarian in Vancouver, BC and I'd like to welcome you to my series of practical skills for pet owners I'm here today with my friend Chewbacca, who you'll see in a moment to talk to you a little bit about how to properly use the leash Now this might sound pretty simple, but it actually is not because I really often see people with their dog on a leash Completely misusing it And the most common issue I see around this is when I see dogs just pulling on a leash and the owners pulling back and neither one of them has any idea what the other one wants And there really is absolutely no control over the dog and the dog really kind of isn't-- barely even aware there's a human attached to it and this is not an ideal scenario So the most common way to misuse a leash is to use it as a handle as something that is attached to your dog that you use to pull on your dog And this is absolutely the wrong way to use it a leash is a communication tool for those of you who ride horses It's no different than the reins on a horse.
This is not something-- You know, you have a 500, 600 kilogram animal This is not something you can bully or force to do things it's something that you can communicate with so we like to use leashes to communicate with our dog friends and it's really important that the communication be clear and consistent Okay, that's all a dog wants from you is for you to be clear and consistent Dogs don't misbehave, dogs always want to please you, but they have a short attention span.
There's a lot going on around them And sometimes they just lose focus on what it is that you want them to do So when you have a dog on a leash don't think of it as a handle think of it as a way of communicating with your dog when he or she is 6 feet away from you and the way to accomplish that is to make sure there's no tension on the leash when under normal walking conditions What you want to do is when your dog moves out of the range of the leash you give them a short, fairly sharp jerk to let them know that they're moving too far away And the dog is going to feel nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, They get to the limit of the leash and they get-- "Oh!" "I have to go back here.
okay," and they'll come back in By the same virtue if you're walking along and the leash is slack, and you want to turn right or left you simply give it a little tug and tjhedog will-- will know that that's the way you want them to move or a little tugback if you want them to slow down now obviously this is not something they're gonna figure out on their own you start walking your puppy on a leash when they're quite young But if you have consistent and clear leash handling techniques So if every single time you want to go right you give it a little tug Or every time you want to stop, give it a little pull back Then your puppy's gonna learn really quickly that "this is what my pack leader wants me to do" And they'll do what you want them to do.
That's how dogs are wired they want to please you And what you're gonna, avoid is those puppies that are just straining on the leash You know trying to get to other dogs and trying to get across the road and completely ignoring you So just remember: ✗ Not a handle ✓ Communication tool And short little jerks with your goal being the relaxation of the leash inbetween is the way that you communicate with your dog And if you're consistent and clear about what you want Then your dog will learn from you, and they'll learn quickly Now if you do have a dog that really is, is really excited about the world, and really wants to pull just remember this is not a dog who's naughty or misbehaving himself.
This is a dog who simply has a short attention span and again Sharp tug on the leash your goal is to make it go slack, now it might require a bit of-- bit of arm strength But your goal is to make the leash go slack and then relax it as soon as the dog is doing what you want it to do And very quickly they will learn how to communicate with you through this leash So we're gonna go outside now and me and Chewbacca are gonna try to demonstrate what I'm talking about So I'm gonna ask Chewy to demonstrate for me here how to not walk on the leash And then we'll try to show you how to properly walk on the leash So Chewy, Come on, off you go.
Whoa! There we go That's what we did not want. We don't want to be pulling on that leash him pulling that way, me pulling this way Him looking off into an entirely wrong direction And then it just turns into a tug-of-war between me and him which he'll probably, you know one of us might win but both of us will probably not enjoy it very much So remember we want to use the leash as a communication tool We'll give him a little jerk, just like that, little tug and there we go look at this, so his attention's on me.
He's moving with me Should we-- should we go for a walk? Here we go Oh, and then come back this way again Come on, just like that Notice how when we're using the leash as a communication tool His attention is kind of in a direction of our travel So if we want to go this way, he'll pay attention this way without me really having to work my biceps or really pull on that leash the key here is not to be wrestling, not to oppose my strength to his, but just simply to ask him to come this way come on, come this way, and he'll oblige So that is a dog that's effectively communicating with me, and I'm effectively communicating with him with a leash Thanks buddy Once again, he's again distracted.

When you got your dog, I bet you imagined taking them for a relaxing, peaceful walks through your neighborhood. But when you got them home, you quickly realized they were less of a Walker and more of a puller in this video instructor.
Rob is going to give you five tips to stop your dog from pulling on leash so that you can take your aspiring sled dog out of that lead position and get them into more of a heel position.I'm Ken Steepe and welcome back to McCann Dogs. One question we get asked very often here at McCann's is how do I get my dog to stop pulling on their leash? When we're out for a walk, it can get extremely frustrating almost to the point.
You're so stressed that you don't even feel like taking your dog for a walk anymore. We're going to give you the tools to help make that walking experience so much better. So your dog won't pull on their leash and you're going to want to take them for a walk or take them wherever you want to go.If your dog's choking on his collar, you're doing it wrong.
The last thing we want is your dog. Don't be pulling on their lease and also choking themselves. So that's usually because the collar is poorly fitted, but we can easily fix that. Usually the collar is too loose, but here's how we're going to address that. You can see here on ketchup, this collar is on them.
it's sitting there way too low, over top of his shoulders almost. So when he leans into his leash, he can really pull because it's sitting nice and low on his shoulders. So he actually has more power. One thing people often do though, is they switched to a harness thinking that that's going to stop the dog from choking on their car.
But the biggest problem with that is it doesn't address the issue that your dog's pulling. In fact, it actually enhances the issue for the dog to pole. Now there's a lot of different collars out there. So it's really important to choose the right one for the right training method. And we're going to show you which one's best to get started with. [Inaudible].
You can see there's a lot of different collars, and they're all designed with a specific purpose in mind, even harnesses as well. But what we like to start is with a flat metal buckle collar and make sure you stay away from the plastic ones.
The plastic ones can break at the clips sometimes, and your dog can be off before you know it. So we're going to get our flat buckle collar. And what we have, what we're looking for in the fitting is to make sure there's a good boy catchy pad. It fits up high on the neck, And it's not going to slide down. Like I mentioned before, we want it to fit up nice and high, and you can only really fit two fingers underneath the dog's collar. It's still nice and loose.
So it's not choking your dog at all. But the one thing that you have to remember, you got those growing puppies. I want to be doing that two finger check every single day, having a well-fitted collar will give you more control and also provide your dog with better timing of information. The next thing I want to talk about is tension in the leash. And what we're looking for is a nice Slack leash clip pointing towards the ground.
It's really important because if your dog is always under tension and you're holding the leash tight, that goes right down to their collar and they can feel that and they get used to it.
And what they ended up doing is pulling all the time because that's all they ever know. So we want to get the leash nice and loose as we're training. So they don't continue to pull. Now that tension can work in a good way because it'll cue the dog to move towards us. Once they feel that tension and to see if you can see how catch it moves around with me, and he feels a little bit of tension, he starts to move and he'll move to my side.
That's a good boy.yes,Good boy. Catch up. And that forever. He feels that tension.
He quickly moves closer to me. And even to the point where we can take that leash off, there's a good boy. Stay nice and close. Hey, there's a good boy. Yes. Ketchy, come on there. Good boy. Yes. Give him a touch.
Good boy. And he learns to move with me no matter what. So the important thing is when you have that leash nice and loose, it's almost the same as not having Alicia on at all.But if you have that tension in the leash all the time, your dog knows there's no freedom for them, and they're not really making a choice to hang out with you. So this is my other dog scout, and she's got a metal flat buckle collar on too.
But sometimes you can get a really strong dog and you need something to provide them with a little bit more direction that will help affect change in your dog.So our next go to thing on that is the general leader. And the reason we like the generally just so much is it works on head control versus anything else. It controls the movement of the head a little bit better than the flat buckle collar.
And it works on a pressure system versus a pain system, like some other collars. And the great thing about this is it's easy to wean off of. So if Scout's walking and she's doing a really good job, not pulling, I can slide that nose loop off. There we go. Scout. Good girl. And what I do is I can just take that clip.
And there's a double D-ring underneath the bottom there and I'll take that clip in. And then now it's acting like it's a flat buckle collar and then Hey scout.Yes. And if we need to, what we can do is unclip it from that double dereg underneath slip that collar back through, and then over top of her nose. It's okay. It's okay. There we go. And then we can go back to the general leader if needed.
So the general leaders, a good level up option if you needed, if you feel your dog's too powerful with the flat buckle collar, but just remember, you still have to have good timing and provide good information to your dog or changing any of the pieces equipment.
Won't be helpful. So one thing that's really important to stop your dog from pulling is to not let them pull the things that they want to get to and how we're going to do that is by turning them away from those things.
If he was so distracted, I would slide my hand down leash, turn him, and then put that Slack back in the leash like we talked about before. And that's so important because if your dog is constantly on this tight leash, we talked about, they're just going to learn to continue to pull. So let's remember, we're not going to allow our dogs to pull the things that they want to get to.
And we turn them away from the distraction in the opposite direction. You want to work around distractions, but nothing this close, you want to build up to it. When catchy was a young puppy, I wouldn't have any of these things out, but as he grew more confident and he'd hang out with me more and he'd be less distracted, then I would challenge him with a toy in front of them.
And then we'd work through it. Let's talk about a key takeaway for teaching your dog to walk on a loose leash, your number one thing, make sure you're consistent. If you're not consistent with your dog, if you're letting them pull some of the time and other times they're addressing it, you're really not being clear.
And that's not fair to the dog. Now, when you take your puppy outside, they can get very easily distracted. So it's best to keep them on a short leash and just stand still and try not to talk to them too much.
Stay quiet and let them just think about their job Once they go to the washroom start to pair the command that you wan na use with your dog.
What is the hardest command to teach a dog?
Now I used the command hurry up. That'S what I feel most comfortable saying in public around people - And I just say that over and over and over again as the dog starts, to go to the washroom
Once they finish, then I simply just praise the dog. I don't make a big deal. I don't necessarily give them cookies or treat them, But I do use my voice to let them know I'm happy with what they've done.

I like to teach my puppies when they first get up in the morning from a long sleep overnight to take them outside at that point, because I know they have to go to the washroom When they go to the washroom for the first couple days, I wait until they go before I start saying my command over and over and over again The puppy doesn't know what the word means yet.
So what I have to do is pair my word with the behavior that the dog is already doing Now. After a few days go by.
I may consider saying the word a few times before the dog goes and see if they start to sniff or initiate behaviors that mean that they're gon na go to the washroom If the puppy's more interested in playing and jumping around I'm gon na stop saying that command and just go silent again and wait for the puppy to go to the bathroom or show signs, And at that point I can start repeating my word again.
There'S no point in giving a word if the dog doesn't know what it means, So you have to make sure the first couple of days is more of a behavior and word association.
One problem you might run into when teaching your dog to go to the washroom on command is that puppies often get really good at going to the bathroom on command quickly in locations that they're used to so such as your house or places you take them on A regular basis, But there's gon na be times when you have to take your puppy and make them go to the washroom in places that aren't so familiar, So maybe you're heading to a dog class or you're traveling on the road for a while.
And in my case I fly a lot with my dogs and I have to go to a lot of different airports And unfortunately, airports aren't always the greatest place to find areas for your dog to go to the washroom.
There'S been times when I've only had a very small piece of grass that they have to go on, or even just concrete itself, And the fact that my dogs can go to the bathroom quickly when I ask them to and they're not as picky about the location.
It makes my 10-hour trip to Europe a lot less stressful, knowing that they're down below and they've relieved themselves and they're comfortable Teaching your puppy to go to the bathroom on command is both easy and convenient, and it really doesn't take that long to do.
So the next time that you're late for something or there's a snow storm outside - and you have to take your puppy to go to the bathroom you're gon na - be very thankful that they will go quickly on command for you Now.

I swear Ugh During that time, with the bridging program, the volunteers and the staff members are going to be exposing the puppy to a variety of different environments and situations. So today we had a ball pit out and we had a little tiny set of stairs. We also had a tunnel that was made out of flexible plastic. Everything is a fun engaging exposure.
So we make everything fun and exciting and yeah it's awesome And all of a sudden, something they might have been overwhelmed or scared at is something cool for them. Our major goal for guide dog training is to get the dogs accustomed to the harness and wearing in the harness, even at a young age.
How does a dog become a guide dog?
So the reason why we use the puppy harness is: it really gets the dog acclimated at that puppy stage.
So when a dog goes into, a harness is going to actually make the dog feel that oh, I have a job.
I'M working, We ask our puppy raisers to socialize the dog, so they're a welcome presence And it's really really important, because we want the dogs to have fun and we want the dogs to be exposed to everything for the first time with the puppy raiser and not When they're with their client Making sure that they get lots of food rewards and belly rubs and kisses and petting and playtime is important Dogs love to learn they're just little sponges.
Do puppy raisers for Guide Dogs get paid?
They want to do things and then you want to have a job At the Guide Dog Foundation about half of our dogs, make it through the final guide dog process. We care about the dog's happiness, We want them to be enjoying the job and we find other jobs for them if that works, And we have different career options. So it's our responsibility to try and find a career that this dog will enjoy.
And if they don't want to have a career and they're telling us that they would be more comfortable as a pet, that's absolutely a choice that the dog gets to make And they can be adopted by the puppy raiser or a selected adopter.
I'Ve been a guide dog user for 16 years And can't imagine life without one. The bond is hmm The bond is indescribable When you first pick up that harness handle you're thinking. Really. This four-legged friend is gon na make sure I go in a straight line to get to where I need to go And it's amazing. It works. He just builds my confidence level.

Truly, I am Holding the harness is just a fantastic thing. I, the confidence level is just through the roof Man. Now you made me cry. Wah, Come on, I wasn't sure I was scared.
I had just graduated high school and I flew out to Long Island all by myself and was just young. So when my trainer brought Michael, I was just overwhelmed with happiness.
I was scared to death with my first dog And when we got back to the starting point, I probably ugly cried for five minutes, because I knew that that dog would not put me in harm's way. All my dogs have been great and I truly appreciate what this organization does..

Close the door. Yay! Today we're going to talk about how to teach four tricks starting with one simple trick call shake a paw. Using the shake a paw trick you can actually get lots of other cute things from it.
This is my 11 month old border Collie Bee-Line My name is Kayl. Welcome back to McCann Dogs. (dog yipping) Now as I was preparing for this video, I realized that Bee actually only knows how to shake a paw with one paw.
When I was trying the other paw she didn't really know what I was talking about. So what I, yes good girl.
What I thought I would do is start off by just actually showing you how to teach the shake a paw just in case your dog might not know it anymore. So if I can tell her shake a paw with my left hand. Shake a paw. Shake.
When should you start professional puppy training?
She doesn't really know what to do other than use her right paw.
So what I'm going to do is start with her in a sit and then put the food on her nose and I'm going to lure her balance off the right side which is going to cause her leg to lift up.

h3 style="text-align: left;">What is the hardest trick to teach your dog?
When it lifts I'm going to yes and reward. Now a mistake, yes, that people often make when they're teaching shake a paw is they often want to pick the dog's paw up and then feed it but it doesn't really teach Bee to offer her paw to me. It only teaches her to sort of sit and wait for me to lift it up.
So I'm going to lure her off balance.
Yes. And then she if she'll start to lift her paw a bit, yes, a bit more independently which she's actually already starting to do. Yes good girlie. I don't bother saying a command.
Yes, good girl. I wait until she's doing this a bit more consistently. Yes, that was a good one. Good girl missy moo moo. Now I will repeat this process until lifting the paw became easier and easier.
And at the point where I can offer my hand and she'll offer her paw at the same time I can start to put it on a command. And for her I'm going to have to use two separate ones.
I already say shake a paw. Bee shake. I already shake a paw for her right paw so I'm going to have to come up with something creative for the other one.
Good girl. Now once your dog knows how to shake a paw very easily, the next two tricks, high five and wave come very very simply and you almost can get your dog to do it right away.
They just need to be able to know to shake a paw very easily. So if I offer my hand to paw up. Shake a paw.
Yes, she knows now to put her paw into my hand. So what I'm going to do for the high five is just switch my hand around so it's upright just like you'd be giving somebody a high five.
Just before she touches me and then of course I'm going to yes and reward.
Now I'm going to start off my saying shake a paw and very quickly once I reward her I can start to change the command to something a bit more original like a high five or whatever you like. Ready, paw.
Yes good. Paw, yes good. Paw yes good girl. So she's pretty comfortable touching my hand with her paw even though my hand's a bit different so I'm going to start putting it on a more original command.
High five.
Yes good girl. High five; yes good girl.
go again as the training continues I'm going to yes, mark the correct behavior with the word yes and then I can follow with a reward one second later. High five, yes. Good girl.
Now the process of teaching your dog to wave is very similar as well. I'm going to start off by offering my hand and just before Bee touches her paw to my hand, I'm going to pull my hand away and when her paw swipes through the air I'm going to mark that with a word yes and then I'm going to reward her from there.
Again there's no sense in me using the command wave at this point. Most of the things that Bee's banking off of right now are following is my body language. So the words don't really matter much at this point until I'm getting the behavior more consistently.
Here babe sit.
Good girl, yes. Good girl. So I show my hand and then pull it away. Look, hey.
Yes good. Okay so this is going pretty well. So now I'm going to start to put it on command. Wave; yes, good. I keep dropping it, free liver treats.
Wave, yes wave. Yes good girl. When she's able to put her paw up without yes.
Yes, yes. Good girl.
Without touching me or anything else I'm going to yes and give her a cookie. Wave, yes yes. Yes, yes, who's a good girl. Very nice. So before you know it you have three tricks just for the price of one and I'm going to go ahead and show you one more little bit more advanced version.
Now one of the benefits of teaching your dog how to use their paw is you can actually start to teach them to foot target anything you can think of and this can develop into really helpful tricks like you know shutting a door or turning off the light, a light switch, or anything that you want really. So I just grabbed a weird household item, our dish wash scrubber here and I'm going to teach Bee to touch her paw to it.
Now I've never done this before. She only has practiced touching her paw to my hand but I'm going to see if I can transfer it to a particular object and then from here I can go in tons of different directions. So I'm going to see what she does here.
I'm going to have her sit. I'm going to hold this in the air just like I would my hand, oh. Yes, did you see that? She just offered her other paw. You are so smart.
Good girl.
After all that practice she's starting to offer it already. Forget that for a moment, we're going to do something different. So I'm going to start off by offering this, you're such a good girl, yes. I'm going to start offering this to her and if she touches it with her paw I'm going to yes and reward and if I think I need to say shake to help her offer, I may do that.
Yes good girl.
This is about being patient too. You see she's not offering it right away. Yes good girl. You may notice that she goes to put her nose towards it.
I'm just pulling the brush away so that she kind of realizes that's not what I'm looking for. I don't want to tell her no, yes.
I don't want to discipline her. I just want her to be encouraged to think on her own. Yes good girl.
Now as she gets better I can again start to put this on some type of command. Now I don't usually use the word touch for anything so I think that's what I'll use after this one.
Ready, touch. Yes, good. Ready touch.
Yes good.
Good girl, one more. Touch, yes good for you. Excellent. So as she starts to get a better hang of this I can then start to transfer this to anything that I think might be cute or maybe even helpful.
Now as Ken and I were downstairs we started to realize that Bee-Line's picking up on this really quickly so we thought we would come upstairs and actually see if we could transfer it to a cupboard door right away.
Now I've changed her to a new location. Before we were practicing downstairs in the studio. Now we're up in the kitchen so to be a good dog trainer, knowing that dogs are very situational owners, I'm just going to take a couple seconds to reward her for touching her paw to the, dish wash scrubber. After you try as well we're in a new location.
Sit, good girl. Touch. Yes, good. Sit. Touch, yes good, touch.
Yes, touch, yes. Touch yes good girl. So she's pretty good at figuring out this in this new location so now I'm going to start to transfer it to the cupboard door. Touch. Yes good.
Touch. Touch, yes good girl Bee. Touch yes. Making it so it's really easy, yes. Good girl, to shut.
Touch. Touch yes. Good girl.
Now for the convenience of not holding a dish wash scrubber up to my cupboard in order to get my dog to shut it, I'm going to transfer the scrubber out of the picture now to see if I can get her to actually offer her paw directly to the cupboard.
She's had a ton of rewards for offering her paw in this situation so hopefully we'll be able to transfer it over and start getting the actual trick in place.
Now I'm only opening the cupboard just a little tiny bit to make it really easy and so that she doesn't get worried at all by the sound I'm going to give her lots of rewards. Touch. Touch. Yes, good girl.

What are the most important commands to teach your dog?
YOU WANT TO SLOWLY BUT SURELY ELIMINATE THE PENNY BOTTLE OUT OF THE TRAINING AND AFTER A WEEK OR SO RETIRE THE BOTTLE ALTOGETHER THE DOUBLE LEASH LOCK OFF.
THIS IS THE ULTIMATE TRAINING FOR CONTROL.
JUST HAVE TWO LEASHES, YOU HAVE A BACK LEASH ANCHORED AND THE FRONT LEASH CONNECTED TO THE COLLAR THE DOG CANNOT MOVE LEFT OR RIGHT AND NOW YOU HAVE A CONTROLLED ANIMAL NOW YOU CAN TRAIN THEM EFFICIENTLY THAN WITH JUST A LEASH ON.
IF DONE CORRECTLY YOU CAN TEACH THEM TO DO ALMOST ANY COMMAND IN ABOUT A WEEK OR LESS TRUST.
ARGUABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU WILL EVER TEACH YOUR DOG. TRUST CANNOT BE FAKED.

If you're, a new puppy owner or you're about to become a new puppy owner, you're, probably doing lots of research about how to give your puppy the best information. Well, in today's video we're going to give you five tips for puppy training that will set your puppy up for a lifetime of successful learning, I'm Ken Steepe And I'm Mark Herfert, And this is Rev.
Is Rev Welcome back to McCann Dogs, (, guitar, strumming, ), (, puppy, barking, ), So Mark talk a little bit about using a house line with Rev When you might use it. Why you're using it, you know the benefits of using a house line Yeah.
So, with a little puppy like this honestly at this point she doesn't really know a whole lot and she's just gon na be a little wild child at the house and running around. So I need some way of being able to maintain a little bit more control on her Throughout the house, if this kid gets away from me, she's running underneath tables she's running behind the couch, and the last thing I want to do is run after her, because, if I'm running after her then she's like `` Hey.
How can I exercise my 8 week old puppy?
This is awesome, !'' And it's just a game of catch sort of thing. So, by having this long line, if she decides to go a little way of distance from me, and I need to get her closer to me, I can just step on it and I have full control over her Yeah so anytime we're working with our puppies. We want to make sure we do have control of them in case they decide to scoot away.
How do I train my 2 month old puppy?
It just gives you a little bit more control and it makes you look like a dog training superhero, because you don't have to actually take hold of them for you to have a little bit more control.
Yeah and the beauty is that, even if I went out in the backyard, I still have that long line on she's only gon na go. You know when we're in the backyard - maybe seven eight feet away from me, but I've got this long line on me that I can easily catch up to her at any time.
You know something that a lot of us trainers will do with our new puppies is something called hand. Feeding and I know, Mark you feed her raw. You feed all of your dogs raw, but it's something that you could do with your feeding process with your puppy. Now tell our audience a little bit about what hand feeding could mean for them.
Yeah, no matter what you're feeding it's really good, because what the purpose behind why we're doing that is. We want these puppies to begin to realize that all good things come from us And, of course, food, and especially a puppy being eternally hungry sort of thing.
If the food comes from me, the puppy knows that I'm the one that provides all the necessities for it, And it just builds that relationship between us as handlers and the dog that much stronger Tell us a little bit about loading, your puppy's name and how you can do that at their regular feeding, time Yeah.
So at this point right now, there's no point in calling Rev's name cause as much as Ken knows: Rev's name I was gon na, say Ken knows: Ken's name, (, laughs, ) as much as Ken knows. Rev'S name - and I know Rev's name. Rev has no idea what her name is at this point.
So if I just sit there and call her name and call her name, nothing's gon na happen and we're just gon na deaden that command.
So what we like to do is we take a high value reward. Hopefully, she's got a hungry belly and we take that food place it on the nose call her name and that will lure her towards us. The reality is she's following the food, not the call to her name but right away. There'S name reward name reward name reward and she starts to build value in that name.
Yeah and Mark mentioned something really important, So if your puppy isn't paying attention to you, you can use that treat, put it on their nose and guide them back toward you. Once you have that undivided attention, you can break that up a little bit so Mark would say: ``, Rev ,'' then reward ``, Rev ,'' then reward ``, Rev ,'' then reward. It really is a Pavlovian idea of ringing the bell and your dog starts to associate that with something
So what you're doing with your eight week old puppy is you're really building value for that work by saying your puppy's name, then feeding them It doesn't even need to be a complicated process. It'S a pretty quick training opportunity, but man, oh man, does it ever build value for that name? The one thing you do have to be careful of, though, is that you're not calling your dog's name throughout times in the house where they can make a mistake. Mark mentioned that you really run the risk of reducing the value of that word.
If you're, using your puppy's name, when you don't have an opportunity to follow it up, So in the house Mark might use something like `` Here: pup, pup, !'' or anything else other than Rev's name when he needs to get her attention or when he's having fun with her in his home.
Yeah, absolutely at that point we're just making up nicknames that will have no real expectations for it later so pup-pup-pup-pup half the time, I'll, probably call her monkey-monkey-monkey or something like that Right yeah.
I will have no expectations for that word later, as opposed to her name. I will have a lot of expectations for Now we are really loading a ton of great exercises into these meal times, and one thing you can do is teach your puppy. That taking their collar is a really great thing, And how would you do that with Rev Yeah? So it's really important cause.
What we want is a dog, that's very calm when we're grabbing their collar. We don't wan na see that thing that you see all the time a person was grabbing the collar and the dog just deeks away Totally and wants to get away from mom or dad So what we will do is we will make it worth it to the dog to allow us to grab that collar.
So again, I'm gon na grab food. You can see a recurring theme here, so I'm gon na grab some food put it on my dog's nose.
While it's pretty much on the dog's nose and the dog is nibbling away at the food, I'm gon na reach in grab that collar ever so softly, say: ``.
Yes, good dog ,'' give my dog the food and then I'm gon na multiple times, just going in grabbing going in grabbing and calmly, holding that collar Yeah. It'S such a really nice opportunity to teach your dog that the moment you have control of their collar.
You can `` yes'' then reward them, and this is something as Mark mentioned, there's so many people who their dog will know exactly how long their arms are. They will come in to that point where you can almost take hold of them, but if you start by really making it valuable to have control of your dog's collar early by gently taking their collar and then rewarding them for that, you will very quickly teach them That it's worth being close to you That it's worth you having control of them, because you're gon na need to do it.
When you take their leash. You know when you're gon na attach their leash. Maybe if you need to pick them up for one reason or another There'S just so many times you want to be able to take control of your dog's collar and by really front loading the value, while maybe during a meal time or while you're working with your puppy. It'S such a beneficial skill.
And it's a great thing to do with those brand new puppies With those eight week old puppies cause, it's so simple to teach. Let'S talk about luring for a moment. What sort of things are you doing to teach your puppy to sit to teach your puppy to lie down talk about what you're doing with that eight week old puppy that will set them up to be faster learners as they get older?
Yeah so again, it's nice and simple stuff with such a young puppy. We can't expect too much and we have to make it really obvious to them what we want them to do. So what we're doing is luring, which is exactly that All we're doing is grabbing that high value treat.
I can put that treat on the nose and then from there. Just as the word says, I'm luring the dog to do the action that I want it to do. So, if I want to do it on a sit, I would just place the food on the dog's nose raise it back. The dog is basically just following the food The dog has no idea that it's actually doing the command.
It'S just following the food
And with regards to that command too, at this point you are certainly not putting a command on to it. It'S simply following the food Yeah, that's great, And one thing I want you to be sure of is because these are brand new things for your puppy. New positions. You'Re gon na be really deliberate about those luring techniques.
You'Re gon na slowly guide them maybe up and into a sit you're gon na slowly bring them into a down position.
And maybe, if you get a little bit more advanced, you can guide them into a stand. But at no point are you using the words
We'Re really building on a solid foundation here, and we wan na show our puppies that being in those positions, is ultimately what we want them to do.
But at this point, we're not associating with the words we're just guiding them into that sit and guiding them into that down and by doing that, you're really setting them up so that when you do start to pair those actions with a word they're gon na learn It so much faster Yeah, and I will say this too, when we are luring using that food to lure the puppy and, as Ken said, guiding the dog.
Remember this: that a dog has an attention span of about six inches. So if that food is on my dog's nose chances are my dog's gon na follow me As soon as you go six inches away, there is way more interesting things out there for this puppy to focus on Absolutely Good thing to remember with you guys with those brand new puppies at home.

How long can your dog hold the stay? Distraction What can happen around your dog as she holds the stay And then lastly Distance? How far can you be from your dog while she stays So, let's start with how to train your pup to hold a stay for a duration, Put your dog in his sit and mark and reward to, let her know she's doing a good job. I like to use a click or a quick and happy ``.
